General Information
In Bellary district the Sericulture activities are gaining momentum in appreciable manner due to geographic suitability of the activity. Supply of good quality diceas free layings, good extension support for getting high quality mulbary leaf production and thrust has been given for the adoption of new technological methods by the farmers that are introduced by the department. As a result of intensive followup of the department the Sericulture, devlopment in the district, showing the good progress. The total area under Sericulture during the year 2005-2006 upto end of December'2005 is 887.20 hectars. There are about 1803 farmers practicing Sericulture activities in the district. Silk worm races were reared in the district includes MSC X CSR 2(CB) and CSR2XCSR4(BV). Because of the availability of suitable climatic conditions red loamy soil with good extension support the Sericulture activity can be undertaken in a large scale in the District.
