Department provides Health care fecilities in the rural area by Doctors, Staff nurses,Lady Health visitors, Jr.H.A(F)and Jr.H.A.(M), Pharmacists and other staff. Jr.H.A(F)and Jr.H.A.(M) educate public to get awareness regarding various diseases and also deliver the health care services by visiting door to door of their allotted work places. And they also give medicines for minor health problems and also advise public to get regular health checkups by the specialist doctors in case of any abnormal health problems.

PRIMARY HEALTH CENTRES
There are 54 Primary Health Centers sanctioned to Bellary District with six bedded capacity . Out of which 7 P.H.C’s have been upgraded to Community Health Centers.Out of upgraded PHC’s one is fully functioning. Out of 54 Primary Health Centers 53 have own buildings, 2 buildings are constructed under I.P.P.-IX and 3 are under Z.P. Sector. For each Primary Health Center 4 to 5 Health Sub-Centers are attached. The total Sub-Centers existing in Bellary District are 293. Out of 293 Sub-Centers 267 Sub-Centers have got own buildings. 26 Sub-Centers are under construction.
GENERAL HOSPITALS
In Bellary District there are 6 General Hospitals. All the General Hospitals are equipped with 50 beds and except one 100 beded hospital at Hospet. For the treatment of inpatients. The ambulance facilities are provided at General Hospitals. All the General Hospitals have got their own buildings except Hagari Bommanahalli.
COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS
Four Community Health centers already sanctioned in the previous years, they are C.J.Halli,Kurugodu, Kottour and Ittigi, ambulance facilities are provided in these four centers. In the current year recently Hampasagara, Ujjini, and Thekkalakote these 3 PHC’s have been Upgraded as CHC’s.

Malaria Programme
Malaria is one of the diseases causing great concern to the Public and Health authorities in the district. As a preventive measure DDT Spraying and Malathyine fogging is done in rural areas. The Municipal Corporation in Bellary and Municipality in Hospet to take up preventive measures in the urban area.

Brain Fever
The incidence of Brain fever cases in substantial in the district . During the current year 88 cases were reported out of which 53 cases are from Bellary Dist. 35 were from neighboring district admitted for treatment. Generally the Brain Fever cases are reported during the month of September, October, and November. The Children below the age of 12 years are prone to this disease. As a preventive measure, DDT spraying and Malethione fogging are taken up in rural areas. Also, action is taken for segregation of the pogs at a distance 4 Kms. From the dwelling . Gambuzia fishes introduced in rural areas for vector control. IEC activities are intensified while taking all measures to prevent the incidence of J.E.Cases, enough stock of medicines which are essential for treatment of J.E. cases also kept ready at the District & PHC level.
Cholera Control Programme
The Cholera Combact Team consisting of Medical Officer, Senior Health Inspectors and Para Medical Workers rush to the areas, where epidemics are broke.
Out with I.V.Fluids and medicines to treat the Patients. Upto December 2005, 2435 cases have been reported out of them 6 were tested as cholera positive, out of which 1 case resulted in death.
Leprosy Elimination Programme
After the integration, it has been merged with General Health Programme. Now all the Government Hospitals are detecting the new leprosy cases and giving treatment, in addition to this two Leprosy Units at Taluk level, two Urban Leprosy Centers are working along with General Health Programme for detection of cases and treatment.

MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMME
The Department is extending service & treatment facilities to the mentally retarded, Epilepsy, Psychosis and Neurosis Patients. The Medical Officer’s at P.H.C. level and General Hospitals have been trained in the Programme. The drugs are supplied to all the Institutions for the treatment of the partients. HIV AIDS
At the year 2005 tested cases are 10795 out of them 1159 found HIV positive. As on today 59 AIDS affected people are in the district.
HIV prevalence among pregnant ladies coming to HQH Bellary is more than 1% and is increasing every month.
Keeping in mind the alarming figures in the district when compared to other districts in the states. A Society is established in the Bellary District under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, Bellary. Bellary District Aids Prevention Society (BDAPS) is established in Bellary and Project Co-ordinator is the Member Secretary of the society.
Awareness programmes about HIV/Aids and gender issues are being conducted in the district in the next four years by BDAPS Bellary, Mahila Samhyakhya, Myrada.
NGO Mahila Samhyakhya conducts these programmes in H.B.Halli, Hadagali, Kudligi Taluks. MYRADA conducts these programmes in Hospet, Bellary, Sandur, Siruguppa Taluks.
Co-ordination of these programmes and creating awareness, Capacity buildings among Government Servants NSS Cadres, Mining Workers, Garment Workers, Granite Workers, Hotel Workers, Drivers of Mine owners and drivers of KSRTC is being done by BDAPS Bellary.
Reporting and periodical evaluation is also done by BDAPS Bellary.
Superintendent of Police, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Panchayat, District Health & F.W.officer, Deputy Director, Women and Child Development, Director VIMS are among the Executive Committee of the BDAPS Bellary.
All these programmes are funded by KSAPS, KHPT, CHARCA, UN-Aids, NACO, (KHPT draws funds from ICHAP and bill MILINDA GATE FOUNDATION)
Under SAEP (School Aids Eduction Programme) 230 High Schools in the district are being covered. 8th, 9th, & 10th Std. Students in these schools are given three awareness classes about HIV/AIDS by the trained teachers in a plased matter.
CONTROL OF BLINDNESS
The department is actively participating in conducting the Eye Camps in the district. The District Blindness Control Society, the Mobile Ophthalmic Unit in the VIMS are conducting the eye camps with co-operation of private organizations. Upto December 2005 as against annual target of 8000 cataract operations 5717 cases (or 71.50%) have been done.
REPRODUCTIVE AND CHILD HEALTH PROGRAMME (RCH)
Bellary district is only district selected as Sub-Project of RCH in Karnataka. This project aims to care women from “Womb to ‘I’omb”. It includes Family Welfare Services, Child Survival and safe guard motherhood. This project cost is estimated for Rs.190.60 millions over 5 years.
The project includes training, drugs supply, IEC activities, Equipment, Furniture, Supply of vehicles.
Under this project, Health Assistants have been trained. Essential drugs and ORS packed supplied to sub underkit A& kit B.
FAMILY WELFARE PROGRAMME
The Government has been implementing several programs under family welfare sector. In order to check the population growth the Government has been implementing this programme with an objective of bringing down the birth rate to 21 per 1000 population.

Information about beneficiary oriented schemes

Patients who undergo family planning surgery are paid Rs.175/- as compensation per case.

For below poverty line patients who undergo Domicilliary deliveries Rs.500/- is paid per case for first 2 live births under Janani Suraksha Yojana.

For below poverty line patients Rs.700/- is paid for institutional delivery per case for first 2 live births under Janani Suraksha Yojana.

Assistance is provided per case for hiring the services of the private experts for L.S.C.S. either in the Govt. facility or if E.M.O.C. services are not available in the Govt. hospital, Private hospital facility can be utilized.

For cataract operations Rs.750/- is paid if the N.G.O’s operate on their own. Rs.375/- per case is paid if the surgeries conducted by district mobile Ophthalmic unit.
